New Year, New Home: Why 2020 is the Year for a New Home
The last week of December will always be a season in preparation to say goodbye and to get ready for a new start of the upcoming year. Maybe there’s still a percentage of us who writes up New Year’s resolutions just to get the record of his or her plans for 2020.
Guilty? Well, you are not alone! Meet Maria, a career-and-family-oriented woman, and she has already prepared her New Year’s Resolutions:

- Lose weight.
- Learn a new skill or talent.
- Drink less; be more health-conscious!
- Get organized and no more procrastinating.
- More family time.

Among Maria’s seven resolutions, which one do you relate to the most? Losing weight has always been a ‘great’ challenge to many of us especially after spending a week-long celebration of Christmas and New Year in your relatives’ houses. You cannot just resist the temptation of getting your plates filled with the famous sweet spaghetti, pansit of all kinds, kakanin, afritada ala Ninang Josie, lumpia, mango graham, leche flan—and let’s stop right here.
How about the idea of learning new skill? Sounds exciting, isn’t it! It adds to the ‘new’ version of you! It can even help you become more productive at home.
Others on the list, as you can see, would require great discipline, commitment, and positive perspective for Maria to fulfill them; especially her biggest and long time dream to buy a new home for her happy family including nanay, tatay, lola nanay, and bunso—oh, and another soon-to-be bunso.
But here’s the reality of resolutions-making, which I bet you have already realized long ago: Did you know that thirty-five percent of people making New Year’s resolutions break them by the end of January and that only twenty-three percent of everyone making a resolution will be successful in completing it [source: people.howstuffwork]? Guilty as well of being part of the thirty-five?
Could it be because it’s the wrong and hasty resolution to make or maybe it’s not yet the best year for things to happen?
Okay! Remember Maria’s New Year’s Resolution #6: Be positive always!
There is never a wrong decision nor worst time to make things happen. Many just tend to get so excited with their overwhelming ideas in the initial step, but starting it was actually harder than they thought. Making your opportunities be delayed became an outcome. In which, I tell you, it is YOUR best time to break that thinking! 2020 surely is your year (even for someone like Maria)!
